Extend your visit with a stay at the new Spier Hotel, set in the heart of the wine farm. The 80-room village-style hotel offers elegant rooms and suites, two private villas, wild-landscaped gardens, and a world-class spa and Cape herbal bath house. Guests can also enjoy one of South Africa’s most remarkable private art collections, with works by contemporary Southern African artists displayed throughout the hotel – a perfect complement to the light art experience.
Whether you’re arriving for a weekend getaway or planning to explore the exhibition at a more relaxed pace, the hotel offers a unique opportunity to sleep surrounded by art and the beauty of the Stellenbosch Winelands.
Good question. To ensure the farm isn’t too crowded and you can enjoy the artworks properly, we stagger bookings each evening. It’s essential to book in advance, as availability is limited.
Absolutely – if there’s still availability then you can book on the day. We recommend booking ahead of time to secure your preferred time slot and ticket type.
You will be directed to the parking area. From there, you will follow the signage to the welcome station where you will check in and receive a printed guide to help you find your way around the farm. You can also download the digital guide by scanning the QR code on arrival.
Most of the installations will still go on even if it rains, although some video works may not be switched on. If you’re feeling artistic and adventurous, just pop on a rain jacket and visit us anyway! Alternatively, you can move your booking to another available date.
Absolutely! The exhibition is suitable for the whole family. While the artists create artworks to challenge our entrenched ways of thinking, they also consider the experience of our diverse audiences.
Part of the magic of the exhibition is exploring the farm and seeing how the artworks interact with the landscape. Art installations are exhibited throughout the farm but to give you a sense of distance and time, you could complete the 2 km route in about an hour, walking at a slow pace. Please note that it will be dark, so be vigilant while you walk and wear comfortable walking shoes.
We recommend wearing flat, comfortable shoes. Most areas have a paved walkway suitable for prams and wheelchairs.
You cannot. But don’t worry, we have delicious food available at the farm. You can also purchase our award-winning wines at the Picnickery.
We recommend warm clothing for the evening chill and if you’re enjoying a meal on the werf, bringing a picnic blanket and wine glasses is a good idea!
