‘Invisible’ is a visual exploration of everyday experiences of economically marginalised people in post-Apartheid South Africa. From an economic analytical point of view, society is structured in such a way that some people are privileged while others are not, leading to further disempowerment, especially of homeless people. Reflective wire figures make invisible people visible, capturing their everyday activities in the city of Durban.

Contemporary artist Kenneth Shandu creates drawings, prints, sculptures and installations. His latest work addresses the economic marginalisation of many millions of post-Apartheid South Africa citizens. Shandu founded Unlearn to Learn under Bhuju Art and Design, an art programme enabling local artists to run art workshops. Shandu is studying towards his Master’s Degree in Fine Art while working as a teaching assistant under the Art Extended programme at the Durban University of Technology.
