This work is a response to the ongoing violence against queer people, and it offers a sense of hope amid sadness and despair. The series of portraits encourages us to consider the lives of the marginalised while celebrating the unapologetic resilience shown by so many queer people.

Seth Deacon is an artist, educator and activist, with an MA in Fine Art that explored violence, the desiring gaze and depictions of the gendered and raced body. He works at Tshisimani Centre for Activist Education, developing educational materials, with a particular focus on queer content such as the ‘Pocket Queerpedia - an illustrated guide to LGBTQIA+ terms’.

His work engages with the construction of ‘normal’ as an oppressive concept of binary value systems rooted in patriarchal, heteronormative and colonial histories. He is inspired by minds and bodies in rebellion, sprawling beyond their confines to embrace the chaotic.
